Common Name:  Madhumathi, Japanese Honeysuckle

Botanical name:  Lonicera japonica

It is called ‘Madhumati’ in Manipuri, for its rich nectar, a source for bees and butterflies. Rightly named ‘Honeysuckle’, it grows up to 120 feet on vertical trellis, gates and fences. This is native to Eastern Asia and was introduced in other parts as a way to reduce soil erosion and for its rich ornamental value. But be careful when you grow this in your garden around other plants, because this can kill your shrubs and plants around by girdling and is invasive at times.
