One of the native trees in India, Sri Lanka and along Indian Ocean, Ailanthus triphysa is commonly known as Halmaddi in India. It is a medium to tall tree that grows to about 30 metres in height and 1.2 metres in diameter as a cylinder. It is an evergreen rainforest tree that can add a sense of traditional aesthetic to your garden. Its woods are used as matchwood or plywood and are grey in colour. In 1990, the Indian government banned the extraction of its resin Halmaddi that was used in incense sticks.
